I think the first gen was body-on-frame, so cheap off roader.

Still not up there with the Suzuki Samurai.

I did remember that for some reason. I also remember when I worked at a car rental place (rhymes with “Schmertz”) that every customer we gave a Sportage  complained about them when they returned.

I bet I can tell you why it was the first car: The crash ratings were so horrible that it was done as a stop-gap instead of redesigning the car.

I’m not surprised. They were so flimsy inside and the doors were very tinny.
